How South Africa really pays rent
Quarterly trends in rent payment behaviour, straight from the payment record. Luupa sees when rent is due and when it actually lands — so these numbers are observed, not estimated.

Why Luupa’s data is different
First-hand, not surveyed
We see the rent payment itself against the day it was due — not what people say they do.
Verified at source
Ledger lines from property managers and payments verified in the Luupa app, classified the same way every quarter.
Privacy first
Percentages and trends only. No counts, amounts or anything that could identify a tenant, landlord or property.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Luupa Rental Trends Report?
A quarterly report from Luupa on how South African tenants pay rent — the share paid early, on the due date, late or not at all, how that is changing, and who is renting. It is built from rent payments Luupa observes first-hand.
Where does Luupa's rental data come from?
From rent ledgers shared with Luupa by property-management partners and from rent payments made and verified in the Luupa app. Each payment is matched to its actual due date, so the figures are observed behaviour rather than survey answers.
Does the report include personal information?
No. Reports publish percentages and trends only — never counts, amounts, names or addresses — and small groups are folded together or left out.
How often is a new report published?
Every quarter, shortly after the quarter closes. All editions stay available on this page.
Can journalists and researchers use the data?
Yes. Quote any figure with a citation to the report edition and a link to its page, for example “Luupa Rental Trends Report, Q3 2026”. For anything else, email info@luupa.co.za.
